Salute:

Boston Tea Party: 238th anniversary.

On December 16, 1773, the taxpayers of Boston had had enough.

The Boston Tea Party Ship & Museum website recounts the story:

On the cold evening of December 16, 1773, a large band of patriots, disguised as Mohawk Indians, burst from the South Meeting House with the spirit of freedom burning in their eyes. The patriots headed towards Griffin’s Wharf and the three ships. Quickly, quietly, and in an orderly manner, the Sons of Liberty boarded each of the tea ships. Once on board, the patriots went to work striking the chests with axes and hatchets. Thousands of spectators watched in silence. Only the sounds of ax blades splitting wood rang out from Boston Harbor. Once the crates were open, the patriots dumped the tea into the sea.

The silence was broken only by the cry of “East Indian” as patriots caught Charles O’Conner filling the lining of his coat with tea. George Hewes removed O’Connor’s coat, threatened him with death if he revealed the identity of any man present, and sent him scurrying out of town. The patriots worked feverishly, fearing an attack by Admiral Montague at any moment. By nine o’clock p.m., the Sons of Liberty had emptied a total of 342 crates of tea into Boston Harbor. Fearing any connection to their treasonous deed, the patriots took off their shoes and shook them overboard. They swept the ships’ decks, and made each ship’s first mate attest that only the tea was damaged.

When all was through, Lendall Pitts led the patriots from the wharf, tomahawks and axes resting on their shoulders. A fife played as they marched past the home where British Admiral Montague had been spying on their work. Montague yelled as they past, “Well boys, you have had a fine, pleasant evening for your Indian caper, haven’t you? But mind, you have got to pay the fiddler yet!”

Montague’s words were to be an omen for the patriots. The party was indeed over for Boston.

Tea-rrorists.....Rly?

Fox News put together a panel of small business owners who also affiliate themselves with the Tea Party, one of which is a Cuban man who immigrated to this country 50 years ago to get away from socialism. While all of them took offense at being labeled as terrorists, the man from Cuba says he’s seen this playbook before and he never thought he would see freedom in jeopardy here in America.

Lt. Col. Allen West: Character

"I'm the liberals worst nightmare."

"America is about empowering the individual, not enslaving the individual. And that's what we have to get away from. Each and everytime there is a tax that is created, that takes a little bit more of your liberty away."
Stunning.

Obama: You Worthless Tea Partiers

MIAMI (AP) -- President Barack Obama said Thursday he's amused by the anti-tax tea party protests that have been taking place around Tax Day.

Obama told a fundraiser in Miami that he's cut taxes, contrary to the claims of protesters.

"You would think they'd be saying thank you," he said.

At that, many in the crowd at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts stood and yelled, "Thank you!"

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter At CPAC

Representative Thaddeus McCotter gave a very impressive speech today at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

"There's been some word. I've heard that the Republican Party and the conservative movement constitutes the party of "no." I think if you look at the facts should disabuse people of that notion. Afterall, when the American people ask for constitutional limited government, the Democrats said, "no." When the American people asked for fiscal integrity in disciplining government spending, the Democrats said, "no." When the American people asked for smaller deficits and a reduction of the debt, the Democrats said, "no." -- When the American people asked to keep the consensus against using your tax dollars for abortions at home and abroad, the Democrats said, "no." And when the American people asked to have the current government run health care plan scrapped and to start from scratch for free market patient center principles, the Democratic party said, "no." -- Because the American people know that, to the American people, it is the Democratic Party that says, "no." And to the American people...we say, "yes." Because we have always understood that America's ultimate strength and salvation remains for a free people."

"We must empower the American people to channel necessary instructive change. We must defend America from her enemies. And pursuing these goals we abide five permanent principles:

...Our liberty is from God not the government.
...Our sovereignty is in our souls not the soil of the septor.
...Our security is from strength, not of surrender or appeasement.
...Our prosperity is from the private sector, not the public sector.
...And our truthes are self evident, not relative."

We Will Never Forget — A Promise to Democrats Who Vote to Nationalize Health Care

Hat tip to Gateway Pundit.

Obama’s Jokers are voting to nationalize health care tonight.
At 1:00 AM Monday, December 21, the Senate will proceed to a cloture vote on the Reid-Baucus-Dodd-Harkin amendment #2376.

Claire McCaskill — Don’t Think We Will Forget This.

We can’t stop them from passing their radical, unpopular, rationed health care legislation but we can promise them this:

We promise to actively and openly campaign against every democrat who votes for this bill no matter if you are a red state democrat or a blue state democrat.

We promise to forever kill the myth that there is such a creature as a bluedog democrat.

We promise to donate to campaigns to defeat the democrats who vote for this radical expansion of the federal government.

We promise to make it known how you bought your votes with our taxpayer money to pass this bill.

We promise that we will never forget how your party leaders and your state-run media called Americans who opposed this lousy nationalized health care bill – mobsters, radicals, Nazis and teabaggers.

We promise to never forget that you voted to force taxpayers to fund abortion by voting for this bill and that your bill requires a monthly abortion fee.

We promise to never forget that your plan allows for government coverage of illegal aliens.

We promise to attend your town hall meetings and confront you about your vote to takeover one-sixth of the nation’s economy. Not even your SEIU and ACORN thugs will keep us away.

We promise to let Americans and seniors know that democrats just cut $470 billion from their Medicare.

We promise to let Americans know that you voted to ration their health care.

We promise to NEVER FORGET that you voted against the wishes of the people you represent.

Videos: Thousands March In D.C. - "Kill The Bill!"

Thousands of Tea Party activists descended on Washington Thursday to protest the trillion dollar health care bill and government spending, holding signs protesting Barack Obama’s agenda while aiming chants of “you work for us” at the Capitol building.

The gathering was organized by local Tea Party groups around the country, who are arriving in Washington this morning by the busload. Conservative leaders in Congress, led by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), have taken to the airwaves to encourage the activists to show up on the Capitol steps and demand meetings with members of Congress. The crowd is expected to grow into the thousands by noon, when Bachmann has promised to lead some protesters to a press conference inside the Capitol to express their opposition to the health care bill in person to members of Congress.

The arrived as early as 8:30 a.m., by bus, car and plane — from Bluffton, S.C., Des Moines and Dorris, Calif. — to rally with conservative lawmakers and possibly roam the halls of Congress.

Obama's Mockery of Tea Parties And Fox

Asked about fiscal discipline and entitlements reform, Obama seemed to be repressing a smile as he jabbed critics of his spending plans.

"Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I'm not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, Obama said, “let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”

Clarity

This week, in honor of Tax Day, CFA is officially launching "Tax Bites."
For the most part, taxpayers are generally unaware just how much of the price of any given good or service is actually brought to them courtesy of the government taking a big bite at the apple.

In an effort to highlight the hidden burdens imposed by government, Americans for Tax Reform Foundation has estimated average prices and taxes imposed on 13 popular targets for multiple layers of hidden taxes.

“Sin” taxes, telecommunications taxes, and taxes on tourists are included in the analysis. While most of these goods and services are subject to specific excise taxes and other charges, the tax “bite” also includes the cost of sales taxes, corporate income taxes, payroll taxes, property taxes, capital gains taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, workmen’s compensation taxes, and other payments businesses must make to federal, state and local governments.
