Amazing Achievements Through Gene Therapy: Destroys Leukemia In 3 Patients

Scientists are reporting the first clear success with a new approach for treating leukemia — turning the patients' own blood cells into assassins that hunt and destroy their cancer cells.

They've only done it in three patients so far, but the results were striking: Two appear cancer-free up to a year after treatment, and the third patient is improved but still has some cancer. Scientists are already preparing to try the same gene therapy technique for other kinds of cancer.

"It worked great. We were surprised it worked as well as it did," said Dr. Carl June, a gene therapy expert at the University of Pennsylvania. "We're just a year out now. We need to find out how long these remissions last."

It involved three men with very advanced cases of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, or CLL. The only hope for a cure now is bone marrow or stem cell transplants, which don't always work and carry a high risk of death.

Scientists have been working for years to find ways to boost the immune system's ability to fight cancer. Earlier attempts at genetically modifying bloodstream soldiers called T-cells have had limited success; the modified cells didn't reproduce well and quickly disappeared.

That resulted in armies of "serial killer" cells that targeted cancer cells, destroyed them, and went on to kill new cancer as it emerged. It was known that T-cells attack viruses that way, but this is the first time it's been done against cancer, June said....

But now Armstrong is the focus of a federal investigation into performance enhancing drugs. A grand jury in Los Angeles has been hearing secret testimony from some of Armstrong's former teammates on the U.S. Postal Service team.

One of the prime witnesses is Tyler Hamilton. Under oath, behind closed doors, Hamilton has told a story that may change the history of sports. Over the years, some former teammates have accused Armstrong of doping. But, it's been said in professional cycling that if Hamilton broke his silence, then the full story of the legendary U.S. Postal Service team would be known.

Hamilton does that now, in public, for the first time.

It's one thing to come clean with authorities. Using performance enchancing drugs will eventually catch up with you. It's another thing to be a snitch for the world to know of Tyler Hamilton's doping experience with Lance Armstrong and his ex-team mates. I don't know what advantage this gives for Hamilton to sit with Scott Pelley of 60 Minutes to give a detailed account of doping with Lance Armstrong. It was actually making me nauseous listening to his slander. This really wasn't any of our business to know. Just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions...

Diana Ross-More Today Than Yesterday Concert At Nokia In Los Angeles

She's still got it.

Wednesday, June 9th: It started with fine dining at Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Restaurant in Los Angeles. Just us girls. My daughter, two sisters and two friends. I had to-die-for Butterfish in Spicy Soy Mustard Butter Sauce. After dinner we split three melt-in-your-mouth Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle for dessert. The food alone is a night to remember. Ahh but alas...there's more. At 7:15 pm we were shuttled via limousine, compliments of Roy's, to the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles for a dynamic evening with the Diana Ross More Today Than Yesterday concert.

Okay. So. Some might say, "she isn't my cup o' tea." But I say...don't knock it til you try it. The concert hall was no doubt filled with a majority of gray haired, bald and overweight fans and by the way, many were dressed to the nine. It was good to see too, about a handful of youngins' that included my daughter.

Diana Ross' performance was exhilarating and upbeat. It was complete with five costume changes with out-of-this-world Bob Mackie gowns that shimmered and glittered. Her voice range remains flawless with hits like "Come See About Me", "Reflections" and "Stop In The Name Of Love." Just as it was in her days with the Supremes. She was very involved with the audience, at one point calling one of those youngins' to come up on stage, as he hip-hopped around her. It was a nonstop party of hit after hit as we were unglued from our seats. She also gave a tribute to Michael Jackson for his children who were hidden somewhere in the audience with such tunes as "Missing You" and "You Are Not Alone." Even that got me a little teary eyed. Also blended somewhere in the audience was Motown Records founder Barry Gordy.

At 66, Diana Ross still proves to be a star. Her voice is strong and she looks at least a decade younger than she is. It was one classy evening and a great trip down memory lane.

Rush Limbaugh Rushed To Honolulu Hospital

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh is resting comfortably in a Hawaii hospital after suffering chest pains while on vacation, his radio program says.

"Rush appreciates your prayers and well wishes and will keep you updated via rushlimbaugh.com and on his radio program," the program said in a statement late Wednesday night.

Limbaugh was rushed for medical treatment earlier in the day. The statement said "Rush was admitted to and is resting comfortably in a Honolulu hospital today after suffering chest pains."

Nidal Hasan: Ft. Hood Shooter Participated in Homeland Security Disaster Preparation

The gunman who killed 12 people today at Ft. Hood appears, based on current media reports, to be Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan who was listed as a participant in a Homeland Security Policy Institute's presidential transition task force last year.

The task force was not officially affiliated with the White House. It was a project of the Homeland Security Policy Institute, an independent thinktank housed at George Washington University, aimed at drafting policy recommendations for the incoming Obama administration.

According to the task force's May 2009 report [pdf], a "Nidal Hasan" from the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine was a task force event participant. Other participants included Senate and House staffers, Department of Homeland Security officials, Defense Department officials, and reporters for Politico, the Washington Post, and the London Times.

FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE: Daniel Kaniewski, the institute's deputy director, confirms that Hasan attended task force meetings as an audience member, and stresses that he was not a member of the task force. "All of our events are open to the public," Kaniewski says, "and when someone RSVPs we put their name in the [report] so everyone knows who was in the room." He says institute staffers recall Hasan attending at least one task force event, and that he RSVP'd for several. "We do recall him speaking at one of our events as an audience member," he says, "but none of us recall what he actually said. Generally, our events are attended by people in the homeland security community, and Hasan had a very legitimate reason to be there. He was a fellow at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences."

Breaking: Massacre At Fort Hood - 12 Dead, 31 Wounded In Shooting

A shooting rampage Thursday afternoon at the Army's Fort Hood in Texas killed 11 and wounded 31 before the gunman was killed and two suspects taken into custody.

All three of the people believed to have carried out the shooting were soldiers, Lt. General Bob Cone told reporters Thursday evening, though the motive remains unclear.

Cone said witnesses reported seeing more than one shooter, but that couldn't be confirmed. The primary shooter used two handguns, he said.

The shooting took place 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the post's Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers undergo medical screening before being deployed or after returning from overseas.

"We have a terrible, tragic situation here," said Cone. "Soldiers, family members and the civilians that work here are absolutely devastated."

This is bad. The shooter in the Arkansas recruit shooting is reported to be a Muslim convert. This echoes several other plots where Muslim converts in the US have decided to prove their loyalty to Allah by trying to take out US troops.

The media and the left were quick to minimize previous cases of US Muslim converts believing they should prove their loyalty by attempting jihadist terror acts. This bastard killed a US soldier and wounded another. As I mentioned this is not the first case and I am not even vaguely interested in the disaffected loser scenarios put forth. It is extremely easy to commit a terrorist act and the relative IQ or sophistication of the bad actor is hardly relevant. It is the belief that your God wants you to kill someone and the decision to act on that. The guy who killed the abortion doctor is the same type of loser.

If you think you need to take action against US troops because they are killing your Muslim brothers, then take your ass to Afghanistan and give it your best shot. A drive by in Little Rock makes you a gutless punk. Hopefully this guy will get his chance to collect his 72 goats via the Arkansas death penalty.

Authorities have identified the soldier killed in Monday's double-shooting outside a U.S Army recruitment office in west Little Rock.

According to Pulaski County Coroner Garland Camper, 23-year-old William Long of Conway died shortly after being transported to a Little Rock hospital.

Police say the incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. at a U.S. Army Navy Career Center inside the Ashley Square Shopping Center at 9112 North Rodney Parham Road. According to Lt. Terry Hastings with the Little Rock Police Department, two enlisted soldiers standing outside the office were hit when a suspect drove up in a black SUV and began shooting.

U.S. Airway Plain Crashes in Hudson River

It wasn't but 90 seconds in flight, when Airbus 320 went down. The cause were a flock of geese that hit both engines, of all things. Thank God all passengers were off the plane and accounted for. The pilot came on the intercom and told passengers, "prepare for impact."

Passengers were sent fleeing into the icy waters when the Airbus 320 went down shortly after takeoff near 48th Street in Manhattan.

Two of the jet's engines were hit by a flock of birds, according to government officials. The Federal Aviation Administration said everyone on board survived and was off the plane.

"There were eyewitness reports the plane may have flown into a flock of birds," said FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown. "Right now we don't have any indication this was anything other than an accident."

Most of the passengers were quarantined at the New York City ferry terminal at 42nd Street, though at least two were taken away on stretchers. It wasn't known how many were hurt, though no serious injuries were reported.

I mentioned this once before. I listened to bits and pieces since then of the two to three minute reporting usually found on Fox News only, regarding John Edwards and his affair with Rielle Hunter. I suspected it was credible just for the fact that the National Enquirer got the law involved with this affair and their rendezvous at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Now, come to find out....John Edwards did indeed, admit to the affair. Whether he admits to fathering Rielle's child makes no difference to me. I could care less whether he'll have to provide child support or not. I think Edwards' affair is the most despicable, unconscionable, sleazy, low-life (I could go on) act that sleazeball could have even dreamed of doing, let alone act on it. Sure men will be men and their tendency to have an affair is really nothing to fret over, so some say. It's nearly acceptable in some circles. Bill Clinton has been forgiven and is loved again, God only knows why. But I'm talking about Edwards' heartless, fiendish, malicious treatment of his wife Elizabeth. How can anyone with any kind of decency in the very depth of their soul, have an affair with another woman, when his wife has terminal cancer? How completely repulsive is that. Whether she was in remission at the time or not, that is completely outrageous.

I've had three family members die from that wretched cancer. We all dropped our lives to focus on the one's we've lost. When someone we cherish has cancer and the chances of death comes knocking on our door more than once, our life becomes a mad rollercoaster ride. But we remain strong for our loved one, always considering their needs first and foremost.

He was a coward to say he was "Narcissistic." Narcissistic my a$$. John Edwards is obscene.

The Story that No One is Telling

John Edwards' affair with Lisa Druck, aka: Rielle Hunter and their love child may very well be tabloid news and something not worth writing about. But you gotta admit, it was interesting to read when John Edwards ran from the press and hid in the bathroom of the Los Angeles Beverly Hilton Hotel for 15 minutes after being confronted by The National Enquirer at 2 a.m. about his affair with Rielle. Priceless. The fact that The National Enquirer is getting the law involved by taking the Hilton to court may be another reason for peaking my interest. Edwards had several meetings with Rielle in the past and was asked by the Enquirer if he was ready to admit being the father of Rielle's child.

Course this is just talk from this source and that source. The fact that the National Enquirer has been investigating this bit of news for the last year on the subject of her/their love child and that he was seen ducking in and out of staircases, hiding in bathrooms and confronted by reporters..... I do believe this is a pretty good reason why John Edwards needs to come forward and face the music. Clear the air so to speak. But we also need to consider the fact that the MSM is extremely bias in their reporting and they're trying their damndest to squash this bit of news.

And what of his wife, cancer survivor Elizabeth Edwards in all this? I feel sorry for her.

At a reception in the West Bank town of Ramallah organized by Carter's office, the former president hugged Nasser Shaer, a senior Hamas politician, meeting participants said. Embraces between men are a common custom in Arab culture.

"He gave me a hug. We hugged each other, and it was a warm reception," Shaer told The Associated Press. "Carter asked what he can do to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israel ... and I told him the possibility for peace is high."

As the outrages of Abu Ghraib faded in memory – and paled in comparison to al Qaeda's brutalities – and our soldiers under the Petraeus strategy got off their big bases and out of their tanks and deeper into the neighborhoods, American values began to win the war.

Iraqis came to respect American soldiers as warriors who would protect them from terror gangs. But Iraqis also discovered that these great warriors are even happier helping rebuild a clinic, school or a neighborhood. They learned that the American soldier is not only the most dangerous enemy in the world, but one of the best friends a neighborhood can have.

Clarification: The Obama campaign has told members of the press that Senator Obama was not in church on the day cited, July 22, because he had a speech he gave in Miami at 1:30 PM. Our writer, Jim Davis, says he attended several services at Senator Obama's church during the month of July, including July 22.

.....Mr. Davis stands by his story that during one of the services he attended during the month of July, Senator Obama was present and sat through the sermon given by Rev. Wright as described in the story. Mr. Davis said Secret Service were also present in the church during Senator Obama's attendance.

We really don't know how Barack Obama was raised and what his beliefs are today. We know so little about him. We do know that he was raised by a "white" mother. His father "black", was not around. He selected a church led by extremely radical views by Jeremiah Wright. And Barack Obama remained a part of this church for more than half his life.

If Obama’s claims are true that he was completely unaware that Wright’s trademark preaching style at the Trinity United Church of Christ has targeted “white” America and Israel, he would have been one of the few people in Chicago to be so uninformed. Wright’s reputation for spewing hate is well known.

In fact, Obama was present in the South Side Chicago church on July 22 last year when Jim Davis, a freelance correspondent for Newsmax, attended services along with Obama.

In his sermon that day, Wright tore into America, referring to the “United States of White America” and lacing his sermon with expletives as Obama listened. Hearing Wright’s attacks on his own country, Obama had the opportunity to walk out, but Davis said the senator sat in his pew and nodded in agreement.

Barack Obama seems to me to be a decent man. He seems like an enormously likeable guy. I just have to wonder why it is that he allowed himself to get mixed up with someone who will make such troubling comments toward America.

Obama has described Wright as a sounding board and mentor. Wright is one of the first people Obama thanked after his election to the Senate in 2004. Obama consulted Wright before deciding to run for president. The title of Obama’s bestseller “The Audacity of Hope” comes from one of Wright’s sermons. Obama’s “Yes We Can!” slogan is one of Wright’s exhortations.

"Reverend" Jeremiah Wright has been Barack Obama's pastor for the last 20 years. He married Obama and his wife Michelle. He baptized their children. If I recall, Barack Obama once called Jeremia Wright a good friend. He does have a role in Obama's campaign, doncha know.
I wonder what Obama, Michelle and his children think when they hear sermons like this, on a Sunday morning?

Planned Parenthood: Wanting fewer blacks 'understandable'

My god, I sit here in total awe of this video. Completely flabbergasted, I find this hard to believe this is actually happening in America in 2008. I sit here with my jaw dropped open, even more so to think that most women are in favor of this organization, supporting and advocating for it. Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading provider for surgical abortions. It also has a website teenwire.com which promotes 'safe sex' and pornography for teens.
All I can say is.....unfrickenbelievable. You be the judge.....
