Rock n' Roll in SoCal

Being a native Californian one would think that I wouldn't be phased by such a thing as earthquakes. Wrong. I am totally and completely terrified of nature's monster. Perhaps because having a child with disabilities, so many of her life's complications are out of my control. Worse yet...out of the control of her doctors. Most times they're as baffled as I am. So perhaps because of the chaos in my life, getting hit by an earthquake just puts the icing on the cake with my stress (?).
Oh well. Anyway.....'nuff of my on-the-couch-moment of therapy....

I could go on and reminisce about the 1971 earthquake in the San Gabriel mountains that knocked me off the couch in the wee hours of the morning.
Or the '94 Northridge quake. You've heard people describing their experience as if there were a freight train crashing through their home. I'll never forget that sound either.
But I won't go on about my experiences, I'm sure you've heard them all on the news.

So in the meantime, that's over and done with. Although seizmologists say that yesterday's quake of 5.4 on the richter scale is just a burp compared to what is in store in the near future. The Big One is yet to come.

A seismologist at the California Institute of Technology, Kate Hutton, encouraged Southern Californians to think of the earthquake as "a drill for the Big One," a much-feared, catastrophic quake.
Many residents, said, however, that Tuesday's earthquake was a reminder of just how complacent they had become -- and how unprepared the region is for a major catastrophe.

..."I would fit into the category of unprepared," said 40-year-old downtown Los Angeles worker Doug Hein. "Collectively, Southern Californians are in a sense of blissful ignorance."

Complacency
