From the moment I watched Tony Snow as anchor on Fox News "Weekend Live with Tony Snow" in 2003, I just knew this was a man with a kind soul. He asked the tough questions with a great deal of respect to his opponents. For those he supported, he praised them in the highest regard. I felt a sense of pride when he went on to become White House Press Secretary to President Bush in 2006. And devastated when he announced his cancer in 2005.
He was just too young and it seems so unfair. He was a good man with a smile and optimism I'll remember about him. I wish I could have known him personally.
Impressions Tony Snow has left with friends and colleagues:
He had a smile in his face and a twinkle in his eye...Minority Leader, John Boehner
He didn't have a mean bone in his body.....Barbara Bush
He did his job with perfection and not mean and ugly....George HW Bush
He always spoke his mind. The president loved him and thought his criticism was always honest ones...Roger Ailes
He was vibrant. He was extremely caring. No matter where he was he always had a smile on his face, even when he wasn't doing well....Bret Baier
Tony Snow, in his own words:
"In many cases, a bout with sickness stretches your soul, opens your eyes, and introduces you to a world of unimagined grandeur, possibility and joy."
"The secret of learning to be sick is this: Illness doesn't make you less of what you were. You are still you."
"We believe. We believe in our destiny as a nation. We believe we have been called to do good, to spread the blessings of liberty and encourage the sense of trust upon which free societies depend."
I'm going to miss Tony Snow.
