Tony Snow at CPAC

If anyone knows one thing about Tony Snow, it may be his battle against that bastard of a disease they call cancer. Then there would be no question you would know about his "courage, selflessness, humility and sacrifice."
He was also appointed White House Press Secretary for President Bush for a short time. Before that he was a regular on Fox News. Yup, can you tell I think the man is awesome? I've admired him for a long time now, not only because of all the above...but mostly because I think he's just a really nice guy. Not that I know him personally....duh. Just that gut feeling you get about a person, know what I mean?

His speech at CPAC was really very inspiring. If this is your kind of cup o' tea, of course. I found it to be uplifting at a time I really need it.
You can decide for yourself....if you've got 44 extra minutes to kill..., listen here

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton promise more government control.

Liberalism treats government as our overlord and everybody else is a number. It's a one-size-fits-all government. You're the ones who have to twist and conform to government.

A year ago, President Bush ordered the surge.
Harry Reid declared the war a failure. He said the war was lost before the troops were even in place. Democratic leaders in the Senate put a letter to the President demanding that the troops leave because at that time for many Democrats, retreat for them was more desirable than victory.
Positive energy is always a good thing.

So when someone asks you what does Conservatism have to offer... Tell them...in a world racked with uncertainty we stand firm for freedom. In a world buzzing with competition, we train to win. In a nation yearning for moral clarity, we affirm the things that are good and decent and true. And in a country built on the belief that we're all endowed with the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, we can deliver on those promises by honoring your rights by ensuing that the government be humble, strong and limited.

(Conservatives) don't perform miracles. We just let you perform the miracles yourself.

Funny. It sounds pretty good in the abstract. The devil is in the details, or the implementation, I suppose

You were able to listen to the whole thing? I'm impressed! :)

It all comes down to...whatever tickles your fancy. Okay, so there were some things that had me scratching my head. But overall its conservate principals that our country is based on. Our country is a country for the people.....not government. That is not the Liberal standard. Its not what they believe will work. Liberals (the democrat candidates) are promising us "change." "Change" for the American people to rely more on government. Conservatism stands for capitalism. A chance for the people to become who they want to (to create their own miracle). Conservatives believe in the right to life. The U.S. welcomes any religion with open arms, but our country was based on Christian values first.

No, sorry to disappoint. I didn't listen to any of it. I meant that what you had wrote ... excerpts from his speech, I suppose ... as to what conservatism stands for.

I was nearly drawn to the edge once, you know. Our last federal election a few years ago, I seriously considered voting Conservative. Went to all the local campaign headquarters and gathered policy statements, had little chats with ... hell, if I know, their campaign managers, maybe? The candidates weren't around of course. Took it all home and read it. Couldn't make myself do it (vote Conservative) though.

Thank God I didn't, I would hate to think that I helped put this current government in place. There are only a couple of places I can agree with them at all, the biggest one being Afghanistan ... (sigh)

I don't know what kind of role Conservatism plays in Canada. Not sure what the differences are.

The way I see it is our left doesn't go as far left. And our right doesn't go as far right as in the US. At least yet. Although I've heard some say the opposite, that our fringes are more extreme, but that's something I've never seen.
