If its so warm, why am I so cold?

How on earth (pun intended) can I say something that I know nothing about? Well ok, maybe I know very little. Maybe just as much as the next layman. But you have to admit....everyone has an opinion about global warming. And you know what they say about opinions.

The global average concentrations of carbon dioxide, or CO2, and nitrous oxide, or N2O, in the atmosphere were higher than ever in measurements coordinated by the World Meteorological Organization, said Geir Braathen, a climate specialist at the Geneva-based agency.

Most Americans believe that global warming was caused by humans.

The national poll, conducted before the release of the United Nations’ report on climate change last week, finds that fully 82 percent of Americans say they believe in global warming, up from 77 percent in October 2005, while 10 percent disagree and 8 percent are unsure.

Maybe this is why.

In the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the implications of more intense hurricanes and rising sea levels could hardly be clearer for New Orleans.

"The sea level is rising worldwide, and that's going to have an immediate impact on New Orleans,” said Tulane University geoscientist Torbjorn Tornqvist. “It's all related to global warming. That's what's happening. We've seen in the past century, sea level is rising four times faster than in the preceding 1,000 years.....

A major concern is the possibility that the current melting of Arctic ice is unstoppable, even with future reductions to greenhouse gas emissions, which would raise sea levels by more than 20 feet and see most of the world’s cities disappear into the sea......

The report ominously predicts that sea levels will keep rising for more than 1,000 years even if governments manage to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A source quoted by Reuters said: "Twenty-first century anthropogenic (human) carbon dioxide emissions will contribute to warming and sea level rise for more than a millennium, due to the timescales required for removal of this gas."

In addition to catastrophic flooding, other predicted impacts of global warming include severe droughts, desertification and famines....
But wait, what are the real facts anyway? So which is it?

We find the scientific evidence clearly indicates the global warming in the last 100 years is likely not due mostly to human activities.

The first thing to note is that the 100 years of global warming occurred in two stages--a temperature rise of approximately a half-degree Fahrenheit early in the century from 1910 to 1940, and another half-degree temperature rise toward the end of the century in the 1980s and 1990s......

However, it could also be due to natural causes of climate change, such as an increase in the sun's brightness, or a change in the circulation of the oceans....

Richard Lindzen--professor of meteorology at MIT, highly respected atmospheric physicist, and member of the National Academy of Sciences as well as the special NAS panel on global warming--said in a recent commentary, "I cannot stress this enough--we [cannot] confidently attribute past climate change to carbon
dioxide."
Who was it that said.....?

2007 lowest September activity (of hurricanes) on record since 1977.
Perhaps he makes a difference.

"I have no doubt that global - that a trend of global warming exists," NASA Administrator Michael Griffin said in a taped interview that aired Thursday on National Public Radio. "I am not sure that it is fair to say that is a problem we must wrestle with."

But wait, I'm not finished...

"There is evidence of global warming. ... But warming does not confirm that carbon dioxide is causing it. Climate is always warming or cooling. There are natural variability theories of warming. To support the argument that carbon dioxide is causing it, the evidence would have to distinguish between human-caused and natural warming. This has not been done."
Maybe climatologist Timothy Ball's article should be taken into consideration.

Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.....

No sensible person seeks conflict, especially with governments, but if we don't pursue the truth, we are lost as individuals and as a society. That is why I insist on saying that there is no evidence that we are, or could ever cause global climate change......

Let me stress I am not denying the phenomenon has occurred. The world has warmed since 1680, the nadir of a cool period called the Little Ice Age (LIA) that has generally continued to the present. These climate changes are well within natural variability and explained quite easily by changes in the sun. But there is nothing unusual going on.....

I once received a three page letter that my lawyer defined as libellous, from an academic colleague, saying I had no right to say what I was saying, especially in public lectures.....

Meanwhile, politicians are being listened to, even though most of them have no knowledge or understanding of science, especially the science of climate and climate change. Hence, they are in no position to question a policy on climate change when it threatens the entire planet. Moreover, using fear and creating hysteria makes it very difficult to make calm rational decisions about issues needing attention.

And the debate goes on......

Know what?
I don't trust any of them. On either side of the debate. Because everything I hear is too conflicting. Although I can't help but think that whether its caused by man or not, we ignore the environmnet and our effect on the earth at our own peril. On the other hand, I also don't think we need to do this over-the-top foolishness we see either.

One more thing, though. Timothy Bell ... Canada Free Press ... uh huh. Some sources are more reputable than others and I may well be slandering the man but ... his views, in particular, I don't give a whole lot of weight to.

All in all, what's a poor girl to do? Stop procreating, perhaps?

Sorry, my bad, couldn't resist...

By the way, you cold? Where you live?
Yeah, right...

Try moving to the Great White Up. Then you can talk authoratively about the farce of global warming.

wow....thanks for responding! :) This blogging stuff really makes time fly by, eh? Maybe too much.

I agree. This "panic" that some will allow themselves to be swallowed up in, frankly I think is nonesense.
But then, I do think that we as a people of this planet are doing a heck of alot better then in the 60's-70's. On the one hand its great that everyone is more conscious of the earth today, separating our trash, etc. Its another to spend billions of dollars on something that could be more useful..i.e. famine.

Timothy Ball in the Free Press? Hmmm......Could be kinda fishy, huh? Could be..maybe..just maybe the Free Press is about the only one who will give him the time of day..? He is afterall going against most of the MSM and politicans. Justa thought....

Talk about going over-the-top. Abortion to save the planet. Oooh ma-gawwd, what next?

Thanks M!

Uhhhh...maybe you haven't heard, but here in sunny SoCal....the peoples here....our blood be awful thin doncha know. Well ok, maybe not all...but I tend not to do well below 70 degrees farenheit...nope, I don't.

Try moving to the Great White Up. Then you can talk authoratively about the farce of global warming.

LOL! I rest my case... :)

There are three positions in this AGW debate: those who know it's true, those who know it's not true, and those who know that the issue is far to complex and unknowable for anyone to say for sure.

Even the ability to measure the temperature of the earth is highly controversial. Whether or not CO2 is a cause of or caused by temp increases is a big debate. How large a part of all CO2 is caused by human activities is impossible to measure accurately.

But notice this: those most certain that humans are causing a catastrophy, are most likely to be socialists. The hunger to control everyone is a hunger that is always looking for excuses.

yadda, yadda, yadda... When in doubt, blame the socialists... BTW, just curious, where do those socialists all reside anyway?

You might be familiar with BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome), conspiracy theorists or truthers as some call them and those [pick a term, apparently yours is 'sociaists'] who have lost what's left of their minds when it comes to the topic global warming. Well, here's another one for you ... I will let you know when I perfect a name ... but basically its those who are terrified of the dreaded socialists and blame them for all the world's ills. After all we all need a boogeyman, don't we? It kind of reminds me of the days of when people saw a commie hiding behind every door...
